Heckman letter con't.

The dedicated men and women who serve as sworn officers across the United States cannot keep our villages, towns and cities safe without maximum assistance and support from institutions, organizations and individual citizens.

We do not hold our physician responsible for our health. It's understood that we are responsible for our health, and our doctor is our primary ally. Our police officers, the ‘thin blue line', are not responsible for our community's safety. We are. The men and women who serve in uniform are our primary allies.

The ALERT Partnership, a program of the Department of Community Health and Health Studies of Lehigh Valley Hospital in northeastern Pennsylvania, has vigorously promoted community policing for over a decade. ALERT's staff, as founding members of the Pennsylvania Regional Community Policing Institute, stand ready to share our knowledge and resources with police departments, institutions, organizations, and community groups across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
